>> bill: second personal story segment tonight. how important is fate in every day life. to football guy tim tebow an actor turned activist kurt cammeron very important. they stopped by the factor not too long ago to explain why. >> so the pilgrims, you want to put them up as kind of the foundation of america we he might go back to what their philosophy was. but here is my beef with that the pilgrims were kind of intolerant people. they weren't embracing the
11:49 pm
pursuit of happiness for everybody. it was their way or the highway. what i learned they weren't intolerant in the sense that king james was when they were in england. they wanted to live out principles that they believed were true and right that would bring blessings to not only their family but everyone outside. >> bill: you were going to get put n rack. remember roger williams got to get out of there and go to rhode island because he didn't subscribe to the pilgrims exactly what they were doing pill grams mored into the witch trials. the pilgrim movement wasn't an oppression from the very beginning but they did have problems accepting other points of view. >> i think that no group of people is perfect for sure. >> factor staff. >> okay. but, what i love though was
11:50 pm
the fact that i could actually reach back in time in order to get some wisdom about how to move forward in the future for my kids. i thought i knew who the pilgrims were and what i discovered was that these guys are in very many ways my heros. because they had enough foresight to know that we would get off track one day. >> bill: what was their headline? give me their headline. >> they left us a set of principles and a secret sauce so to speak in the form of 180 tojs of granite the very top of that statue her name is faith. faith is the very core of that statue that has been paid for by the state of massachusetts that faith works itself out that provides civility and reality and character and courage and liberty and blessing for all people. >> bill: they basically base it on faith. give them a sign post how to
11:51 pm
live. you want americans to know what that was to try to get back to that last question. did your pinhead hollywood friends give you a hard time for being a conservative guy who is fundamentalist in his thinking? do they give you a hard time? they give me a hard time. at the end of the day i want to be a man of conviction and i want to speak my heart and my mind with compassion toward people. >> bill: do you debate them? is it a good natured thing or do they shun you? >> i always try to be good natured. if people want to call me names, they can. i'm not going to resort to that. >> bill: here is what i want to know. i played football at a much lower level than you. in pro-football they have christian athletes like you. all right. but it's a secular society. there is a lot of crazy guys doing a lot of, you know, strip clubs every night, drinking and all this kind of business. does that impact in the locker room at all your lifestyle as opposed to theirs? >> to be able to influence someone or to have a group of guys come together to have a successful team, and to be together all the time every day for, you know, year and
11:52 pm
longer together, you have to have a -- find a common ground and that common ground for us is football. and when they realize that i go out there and i work as hard as i can every day, they have a respect for me for how far i play. and then that respect grows to like. that like grows to love. and then they will play for you. if you walk the walk, then when you say something it's going to mean so much more. i think that's how i try to approach it on the field every day. >> bill: do you ever get offended by their behavior? i mean, the ones who do not believe the way you believe? >> very rarely because we all, you know, have things that we're trying to work on. >> bill: so you don't judge? >> absolutely not because i'm not perfect. i'm never gonna be. that's the great thing about living the christian life and walk by faith is you try to get better every day and improve. >> bill: some evangelicals witness. >> absolutely and that is great. but, you know, the greatest way to witness is by walking that straight and narrow and also realizing that you are gonna mess up. that's what grace is for.
11:53 pm
we're going to fall but we have got to get back um. and you have got to improve. that's what i'm all about. it's not trying to act like i do everything right because i'm going to screw up. i'm going to mess up. but, you know, i'm going to get back and get after it and try to do better the next day. >> bill: do you pray for victory? >> i think he honestly does care about how we play on the field more than anything win or lose but our hearts on the field. on the field i'm trying to play all for the glory of god but also give everything i have and win and compete and so i think more than just winning or loading he -- you know, i think he cares where our hearts are before we are playing. >> bill: you don't say before the game god let me win by 10 points here. >> to cover the spread. [ laughter ] >> bill: i used to pray and this is absolutely true i used to pray please don't let me break anything. i want to keep my arm and my arm intact. i would pray for the safety of not only me but the team and let the chips fall where they may. >> as i will share in this
11:54 pm
book i think more than anything is i pray that somehow through this game i will be able to honor him, be able to inspire someone, be able to encourage. >> bill: you can do that by your fame. >> with but just how i play. thanks for having me on, god bless you. >> bill: john ratsen berger and new crusade to get americans back to work. we'll be right back with that report.
11:55 pm
11:56 pm
>> bill: welcome back to special edition of the factor and in the back of the book segment tonight. with the unemployment rate about 8%. lots of americans are desperate to find jobs. actor john ratsen berger feels their pain is trying to help. let's call him the job crusader. >> where are these jobs? >> there is plenty of jobs out there but there is nobody to fill skilled worker jobs. >> bill: like what? >> welders, carpenter, bricklayers.
11:57 pm
lathe operators. tool and die operators. >> technical jobs. you just saw the people down there, i'm not working for $7 an hour. i'm not doing. this i'm not doing that that goes against my work ethic and i'm sure it goes against yours. >> i was working since i was 9. >> bill: you start and build up some credibility in the workplace and then you go on. what you are saying is that education, public school education should teach some of these kids how to do these things. >> they used to do. 25 years ago they started that we bought into that philosophy of everyone has got to go to college. not true. someone has got to build the college. like someone had to build the ceiling before michael angelo could go to shop. >> i used to have scars right here. >> but if you do go to college. the unemployment rate is only 4.5% in this country. there is something said for getting educated if you possibly can do it because you will work. i agree with you. there used to be the master and the apprentice and the -- you worked your way up. everybody out there knows if
11:58 pm
you have got to get a plumber that's 25 bucks an hour, right? >> and the faucet leaks you are not going to be calling the geek squad. >> you say there isn't enough training in the public school system for these jobs? >> there is none. like 2020 there is going to be 10 million unfilled jobs in the skill trade. >> bill: all blue collar jobs? >> right across the board. anybody that uses tools. >> bill: as the service industry goes to china and honduras the replacement for that should be skilled blue collar labor. people who can fix things, auto mechanics. >> the jobs are there now. >> computer guys learn how to fix your computer. >> the tinkering spirit is gone too. we don't allow our children to go outside and play for whatever reason. when is the last time you saw a kid building a tree house. >> bill: they are afraid of the child molesters. >> exactly. instead of fixing a bike they will throw a bike away. we used to learn those skills and then we had options. >> you are making a good point. president obama basically wants to create green jobs.
11:59 pm
>> doesn't exist. >> bill: doesn't yet but it might. >> a job is a job mr. you are putting a nut and bolt on a pickup truck or wind machine. >> you say maybe the president put some of the money instead of in the green jobs in the you call them the tinkering jobs. you be a tinker. >> go back the way it was. give the kids an opportunity studying or study math but also study wood shop. metal shop. >> here's the final question. president obama says we're softer society now. we are not willing to work hard anywhere. you see that with these demonstrators yelling and screaming we're not going to take the $7 jobs. is that true? would these kids respond to that even if you offered that? >> somebody is going to respond to it because it's our infrastructure. somebody has got to repair the turbines that supplies the electricity that runs the computers. that's why we have this 10 by 20 program if you go to center for america.org o. download a booklet that we come up with and gives you ideas of what you can do as an average citizen to go to your
